Our Mission
Esports has made strides by becoming a real sport, but one area where the industry falls short is diversity. What’s needed is a program that will effectively engage gamers who have been left out. This program is CONDUIT and it offers young Hispanic and African-American gamers a way to break into the esports industry.
CONDUIT is designed to take young students from casual players to professional gamers. It offers competitive-level training, access to ranked professionals, and through partnerships with organizers and leaders working in the esports field, it also serves as a conduit into this growing industry.
Phase One: Recruiting the Teams
CONDUIT partners with middle schools from predominantly Hispanic and African-American communities, from every borough in New York City. This phase works with teachers to establish an esports team at the school by offering guidance on recruitment, structure, and the implementation of national esports guidelines, which are based on those used in the esports industry.
Phase Two: Training Begins
CONDUIT begins with a ten-week video training series. All the videos are hosted by esports professionals who share tips and advice, while also focusing on different aspects of competitive gaming. Each lesson is based on cumulative learning and serve as building blocks for subsequent cognitive development. Young gamers also learn by participating in weekly drills, working with mentors during virtual bootcamps, and testing their new skills at monthly competitions.
Phase Three: Community
The program culminates with a citywide tournament with teams from participating middle schools hosted at HITN’s studios in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. All the teams are put into a regulation tournament bracket and will compete for the glory of being the CONDUIT championship team.
As a mission-driven non-profit organization, HITN embeds its work in its mission of advancing the education, cultural and socio-economic aspirations of Hispanics in the US. With a Spanish-language television station that reaches over 44 million households nationally, with 3 million in NYC. HITN ‘s power to leverage its technical and creative assets and its large viewer base, helps to continuously expand reach and impact on-air on-line and on the ground.
